Taggart - Ring of Deceit Set

Taggart volume 8 - still no subtitles
This is volume 8 of the original series.
The proper sequence to view these sets is:
1) KILLER set
2) DEATH CALL set
3) COLD BLOOD set
4) ROOT OF EVIL set
5) EVIL EYE set
6) VIOLENT DELIGHTS set
7) THE HIT MAN set
8) RING OF DECEIT set
9) DEATH WITHOUT DISHONOUR set
10) HELLFIRE set
11) PRAYER FOR THE DEAD set (the last Jim Taggart episode)

Not overly impressed.
This apparently ran for a long time in GB - I am an English ex-pat and am always sceptical of longterm detective TV series in the UK - they tend to be something to view on the "telly," and the episodes appear to eventually run together. This is okay, but I would not spend time and money on buying the whole set !! Taggart the detective is lukewarm and the acting, although up to BBC standards, does not invite undivided attention - somewhat boring in parts !! Sorry but not thrilled !!

Taggart - Violent Delights Sets

Taggart Volume 6 - Great mysteries but still no subtitles.
Show = *****
DVD = **** (no extras or subttitles/closed captions. )

This is volume 6 on the original series. The series is at its best here!
"DEATH COMES SHORTLY" (series 6 - December 3rd, 1990) 129 minutes - After an elderly man is found murdered, the relatives come under suspicion.
The 2+ hour format allows plenty of time for subplots & red herrings to keep you guessing. It is nice to see Jackie in her debut episode.
"ROGUES' GALLERY" (series 6 - December 31, 1990) 79 minutes - Dead bodies are turning up in the trunks of cars in a junk yard about to be crushed.
Reduced to under an hour & a half, this story is still quite complex and full of red herrings to keep you guessing up to the end.
"VIOLENT DELIGHTS" (series 7 - January 1, 1992) 79 minutes - A student stalking his beautiful teacher thinks he has witnessed a shocking murder.
Over a year has passed since the last Taggart episode was broadcast but the crew has not lost their...

Taggart - Death Without Dishonour Set

Taggart volume 9 - still no subtitles, longer length tends to drag episodes.
This is volume 9 of the original series.
The proper sequence to view these sets is:
1) KILLER set
2) DEATH CALL set
3) COLD BLOOD set
4) ROOT OF EVIL set
5) EVIL EYE set
6) VIOLENT DELIGHTS set
7) THE HIT MAN set
8) RING OF DECEIT set
9) DEATH WITHOUT DISHONOUR set
10) HELLFIRE set
11) PRAYER FOR THE DEAD set (the last Jim Taggart episode)

This set from "series 9" contains extended length episodes running well over 2 hours. Unfortunately this longer length tends to drag some of the episodes down.
"GINGERBREAD" 2 hours & 7 minutes (1993) - This is a story you would expect to see in MIDSOMER MURDERS, full of quirky characters, gingerbread houses & fairytell like settings. This would have been a wonderful episode at 90 minutes, but the added 37 minutes is padded out with personal love relationships of the inspectors that bring the detective work to a halt.
"DEATH WITHOUT DISHONOUR" 2 hours & 9 minutes (1993)...

Great BBC dvd mystery play.
Set in Glasgow, Harriet Buchan plays the wheel-chair bound wife of the detective, Taggart. I met her recently with Wildquest, swimming with wild dolphins in Bimini and couldn't remember where I had seen her, until I returned home and Googled her name. Great acting!

Taggart - Prayer for the Dead Set

One of a kind.
There can be little doubt that the acting of Mark McManus and the stark reality of the city of Glasgow provide an ideal background to these murder mysteries.
I have collected thus far most of the series where he gives a riveting portrayal of a tough and unrelenting police officer. Thoroughly recommended.

Taggart: Prayer for the Dead
The whole series of Taggart is great -- each long enough to fully develop a story, with lots of "red herrings"! I wish, however, that the series (with Mark McManus et al) was identified chronologically -- this one, for instance, is the LAST in the series starring McManus, and I didn't know this when I ordered it, and watched it. The sleeve is dated, but you don't know the dates until you've bought it. Air Date should be in Amazon description.

Taggart volume 11 - still no subtitles
This is volume 11 of the original series.
The proper sequence to view these sets is:
1) KILLER set
2) DEATH CALL set
3) COLD BLOOD set
4) ROOT OF EVIL set
5) EVIL EYE set
6) VIOLENT DELIGHTS set
7) THE HIT MAN set
8) RING OF DECEIT set
9) DEATH WITHOUT DISHONOUR set
10) HELLFIRE set
11) PRAYER FOR THE DEAD set (the last Jim Taggart episode)

I felt a bit cheated with this 2-episode set, BFS is charging the same list price, but giving you only 2/3 of what is on the other sets.
On top of that, DCI Taggart is only in one of the episodes. If you have not seen this series and want to try it out, i would suggest sets 6 through 10 in the above list instead of this set.
This is the "swan song" set for DCI Taggart, you feel the emptiness left by his death.
I guess BFS did not want to start releasing the next phase of the series and bring this set up to 3 episodes.

Again, there are no subtitles to...
